My Titirangi.
Brenda Hyde, Titirangi, New Zealand. Brenda began with the idea of making a chequerboard surrounded by clocks. This is one very lost lady :-)) The clocks went West. Mariners Compasses got chopped in half. All the lovely flora and fauna of the area where Brenda lives came into the picture. Brenda had a wonderful time. So did I, trying to guess what new idea she would come up with each session. :-)) Hand appliquéd, machine piecing, embroidery and Hand quilted.
Godson's Gift.
Trish Everard, Herne Bay, New Zealand. Trish wanted to make a quilt for her Godson that told the story of his life. A child born in New Zealand with Maori connections, who went across the Tasman Sea to live in Australia. He is interested in music, and he has connections with Ireland... . A design nightmare? No way. Each step of the way was thought out and carefully constructed. The resulting quilt was quite stunning and did indeed tell the story Trish wanted to depict. Look carefully in the corners....You may find a Shamrock or two. :-))

Gay's Scrappy Blue and Pink.
Gay Topliss, Remuera.New Zealand. Gay finally decided to use all her carefully hoarded blue and pink scraps.... Strip cutting began, blocks were constructed, chopped up, shuffled about, and re-sewn. Well not as easy as that, but you get the idea. Gay surprised herself with the end result. Machine and hand quilted.
Froggy Heaven.
Margaret W.Sydney, Australia. Margaret's unique sense of humour always amuses me. I have had this lady in 2 of my classes and she always produces something that no one else would dream of attempting. This began as a colourwash.....Got put on-point and Margaret's free spirit took over. :-)0 The final result is a really novel wallhanging . The frogs represent a Son, his partner and his children, as well as hers.... 6 or 7....Girls ! I am glad I don't have to pay for all those Weddings....:-))

Rodney's Quilt.
Rowena Coote. Dee Why, Sydney, Australia. Rowena made this for her husband, Rodney who has been mad about fishing for the last 12 years..... Unfortunately, Rodney has never had any luck, meaning he has never caught a fish! This is his wished for fish. Vlysofix, fancy machine stitchery and machine quilted.
Big Red.
Jan Reaney. North Sydney, Australia. Big Red, the largest sand hill before reaching the Simpson Desert, just out from Birdsville. Jan constructed the picture then played about with her machine and free motion stitchery. There was also a load of cotton unwound from her thread reels, these she chopped and chopped. Then sewed resulting bits to background.... A different 3D bunch of grass. :-))

Little Egypt.
Rowena Coote. Dee Why, Sydney, Australia. Another colourwash deviant...:-)) Began as colourwash then turned into a pocket version of the real thing.:-)) This quilt was accepted at the Sydney 2001 Quilt Show at Darling Harbour. Rowena is a whiz kid with her machine and loves to play about with different stitches to form the effects she wants. I once only asked her if she ever did hand work....comment was "Why?" Hmmm, Why indeed.
Unfinished Symphony.
Vera Luty and friend. Milford, Auckland, New Zealand. Vera's best friend died leaving all the blocks in the picture made, but not joined up. Vera and another friend decided to finish this quilt for their friend's Grand daughter. The central picture was a small sketch on the back of an envelope. This was enlarged and Vera then sat painstakingly for hours and stitching.... . She had never done any form of patchwork before deciding to attack this project. As you can see the quilt is complete and the youngest lady in the picture is the Grand daughter. By the way....Vera is 86 yrs old....Go Vera!
